Essentials of Project management for the Nonproject Manager (Live Online)

Learn and apply basic elements of PM to your job to support project success. 
 
In just four Live Online lessons, this seminar will help you develop an understanding of essential project management terminology and apply basic tools and techniques to increase your effectiveness—both on your team and in your own functional area. 
The lessons are designed for individuals with little or no prior knowledge of project management who serve on project management teams—or those who simply want to know more about PM or are making the transition to project management.

  • Recognize the factors that contribute to project success or failure
  • Identify the framework for project management
Getting It off the Ground
  • Recognize why and how a project is important to the organization and to you
  • Explain the elements of a charter and a charter’s relevance to initiating a project
  • Identify stakeholders, and explain their role(s) on a project 
LESSON 2 
Planning the Work
  • Apply techniques to define the work to be done
  • Identify and apply techniques to estimate time, cost, and resources needed for a project 
  • Apply techniques to schedule a project
LESSON 3 
Planning the Work (cont’d)
  • Identify roles and responsibilities for a project 
  • Plan for potential risks to the project
Working the Plan
  • Build an effective status report 
  • Identify the types and purposes of meetings 
  • Identify action items and issues
LESSON 4 
Working the Plan (cont’d)
  • Recognize the importance of managing change 
  • Use project closure checklist 
  • Compare closing out successfully vs. unsuccessful or cancelled projects
