Watching her give an example through 'role-play' of a difficult performance review was aspirational. Structure was on point. Highly engaging. I really liked the workbook that was provided and the time built in to reflect on the modules to sum up the main take-aways. It forces you to take a hard look at yourself, which can be a little scary, but necessary to excel as a manager. It exceeded my expectations.

  There is a lot of focus on the DISC personal profile system. This course would benefit from every participant completing the online DISC questionnaire prior to attending the workshop.   I feel that the course outline was very good in the way the modules were divided up. Each module focused on a particular strategy that we could then apply in our working environments and the consecutive modules built on the skills learned in the previous one. For example I like that Disc style was taught to us, and then the skills that we learned would show us how we could apply the Disc knowledge when interacting with others.I love Karen's style, not only is she a good presenter, and also she is very experienced in the Management work environment. She gave us good examples, to only from a management perspective, but from an employees perspective too.   Would like to include a small section on hiring and firing/interviews, and a more in-depth teaching on conflict management. A bit too much time was spent on personality tests, as most people are a mix of all, not strictly one or the other. Peter was very engaging and an excellent speaker.   I enjoyed the course and I learned quite a few helpful and relevant things. However, I think it is a gamble to link all of the content so closely to the DISC assessment. It was very time consuming to tailor every single assignment to the personality types, time that could have been spent discussing other problems and issues. It also should be stressed that DISC types have no known correlation with job performance. The usefulness of these tests has been oversold. Peter is pleasant, lively, and knowledgeable. My one comment is that I would have preferred more time for discussion of issues. Less DISC, more issues, not really Peter's fault. No all-mayo lunch! Potato salad, chicken salad, and egg salad, all dripping in mayo. Too much!

  The course was very good but it can be difficult to sit for three days in a room. Integrating regular breaks was a good idea. Can more movement be integrated into the course, such as using flip charts for groups so people can stand up for some exercises, instead of always sitting, or making use of break out rooms for exercises to provide small opportunities to get up and move throughout the day? Despite my earlier comments that sitting in a room for three days can be difficult, Peter's energy and enthusiasm helped keep all of us engaged. Thanks - I learned a lot from the course.

  I think the course does a good job at covering topics that are important for a new manager/supervisor to be aware of as you start in the position. I did find at time the constant reference to the DiSC to be redundant. I thought the answers were the same, but just applied in a different context. Overall, however, I did find the learnings to be quite valuable. Peter was a great facilitator, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I appreciate that he share personal experiences which made the topics more relatable. At the end of the last day of the course, Peter made a comment, which I assume was meant as a joke. However, the fact that it is unclear whether or not it was a joke signifies to me he probably should not have said it as it could have been interpreted wrongly.I think there could have been more food for lunch. On the first day, I stayed behind fora bit when lunchtime started to chat with Peter and other colleagues. By the time I got to the food, some of the dishes were empty. It might be a good idea to review the duration of the course. On the last day, we finished much earlier than anticipated. I came from outside Ontario for this course and it would've been nice to catch an earlier flight to get home early. That being said, I appreciate that time on the agenda was respected (start time, breaks, etc.)

  I had no expectations on material going into the course besides knowing that I was sure to learn something that I could use.   The course was great but Marilyn is what really pushed to excellent. I found her very informative and straight to the point. If a comment was made by a classmate and it was incorrect she told us it was and didn't beat around the bush. Then found a different way to make us understand the topic.   I thought the course content was great and really pinpointed on the various real life work situations. Understanding the different personal profile styles and the added layer of generational differences made for a very interesting and thought provoking few days. I have a better grasp on how to manage people and the effective approaches that can be used for a more successful outcome. Amount of food provided during the course was ample however variety of meals during the 3 days could use improvement.

  Fantastic course. I wish it was mandatory to know everyone's DISC profile that you come in contact with. It will definitely affect how I approach delegating work flow and how I interact with colleagues on a daily basis going forward.   Marilyn was fantastic. I came in skeptical about how much of the course would apply to a role in sales. My skepticism faded as Marilyn engaged me early on in day 1, and while not everything in the course was directly relevant to me, Marilyn was so adept at keeping everyone engaged and interested that I did not lose interest during the irrelevant parts. The course caused me to have a major philosophical shift in thinking, which for me is a big deal. I tend to be a bit stubborn. Armed with more self awareness, and awareness of others and how I can and do interact with them, I feel more confident and effective as a manager. I would recommend this course to anyone looking to add another perspective in their management arsenal. Marilyn was excellent, and I look forward to staying in touch with her moving forward.

  The group exercises were very helpful. They gave us time to practice our skills and to receive feedback. And the DISC methodology is the best one I've had so far He was able to answer questions specific to each persons situation - and through that we learned that it wasn't just their situation, we were all in the same boat.   In my opinion, there should have been another 30 minutes spent the first morning on discussing the DISC behavior types, their differences and nuances.    It could have also been explained that the remainder of the course would be spent applying this DISC knowledge as we navigate through the various topics.  A stronger introduction of DISC at the beginning would have made it much easier to apply for the next 2.5 days.  I would not have been as over-whelmed and lost and would have left the course feeling much more confident that I could apply the material going forward. Deane knew her material.  At times the instructions were unclear which was frustrating and made it difficult to get the most out of the exercises/role play.  However, I did leave the course knowing I will be able to apply much of the material and be a better leader because of it.

  The material was arranged in a format that is easy to understand and apply. Liz is an excellent facilitator. In addition to the content within the questions above, she was inviting and, in my opinion, has a style that creates a successful learning environment. As an introvert, I was more inclined to share my thoughts in a manner that came naturally due to the nature of the atmosphere. I really enjoyed the small group setting.

  The pace was fast but also reasonable.  Day 1 is a particularly heavy day because you are being introduced to concepts.  I found it hard to go home to review the materials and then complete homework.  Maybe adding a half day to the course would allow more review time.   Deane was very experienced and knowledgeable.  At times, I found her explanation of the tasks (group work, case studies, etc.) somewhat confusing, however, she was always able to clarify if we asked more questions.  I enjoy personal stories and concrete examples.  She worked us hard, has high expectations and pushed us to stretch and flex beyond our comfort zones. I would have liked more frequent breaks for shorter amounts of time.  It was challenging, focused work.  For example, 5 minute breaks every hour to stretch, move around, avert attention, etc. Downtown locations are very challenging and expensive for parking and getting to and from.  Please choose sites that are near main roads (like the Henday, Yellowhead, Whitemud)-easier access.

  Course was very good, lots of information, intense at times when learning new content, recommend perhaps a 4th day. Deane was incredible she was able to make everyone very comfortable, knew when to assist in encouraging participation in role playing and discussions  which in turn brought the group close.    The only concern I have is with the location of the training being city center, parking is very expensive and limited, suggestion is to move from the city center, Edmonton has lots of facilities that would work fine and have free parking.

  I felt that some of the scenarios did not directly apply to my team/situation at work, however the learning from those scenarios was valuable.  Marilyn was just incredible. She had amazing stories, great examples, a deep and thorough understanding of the concepts and provided us with additional tools.   Really informative and eye-opening Marilyn was a great facilitator and she makes everyone feel comfortable throughout the class. She lets us take it at our own pace and lets the discussions grow organically, allowing for more time (if needed) on things topics that are more relevant to the class and making sure that we understand how to apply things we learn to our own environment as everyone's in a different industry. I like the length of the course. It was just right. The meals provided were really great. Overall, my whole experience has exceeded my expectations.   I think there could have been adequate time for all the modules, we didn't cover the very last one. I know that most people have seen a performance review before (including myself) but my current work place does not have these and my coworker has never seen one, this part of the course would have been useful for us.  This has nothing to do with the performance of the facilitator (who was great) but the chairs were horrible, really really horrible, especially for sitting almost 8 hours. I don't think I was the only one left with lingering back pain. Good energy (but not over the top), relate-able examples, good knowledge.  Again, the chairs, the chairs were not suitable for sitting that long, maybe get a yoga instructor for the lunch break if those have to be the chairs. I loved the location, preferred it at the hotel. Not sure what happened with the communication piece but was not please with my notes and my personal pen being thrown out after the first day. The course material and facilitator were very enjoyable and I found the course useful.

  Liz did an extremely fabulous job facilitating the session. She was able to keep the group interested the entire time through her great exercises relating to each important concept she taught. She was also able to customize her approach based on the personalities and interests around the room. She noticed that she had a room of all introverts and was able to run her course in a way that we were all engaged, comfortable, and getting the most out of the course we could. I enjoyed the course a lot more than I thought I would and I really do commend Liz for bringing her experience, humour, and practical insights to make the course super helpful for the managers around the room. In addition, the room was very comfortable with all the supplies we needed and I liked that the group was small which made the interactions easy and provided everyone an opportunity to speak and express their thoughts.

  Very nice location for the course. Very clean office and it was nice to have drinks throughout the day. The lunch and afternoon cookie "pick me up" was also good. Overall, a great experience. 3 days is a bit long and there was a lot of material to cover so I will definitely be looking back to my course book for reference in the future.

  The course was excellent, far exceeded the expectations I had coming into the course. There were a couple of instances when I was a little lost in where we were in the notebook, but this was because I was listening and engaged in the conversation that was taking place with the other participants.   Coming into the course I was a little leary, as I wasn't totally sure what to expect. I was worried that the content was going to be dry and boring. My experience was the complete opposite, it was very engaging and very enjoyable. I have left the course with much better management knowledge and information, to not only reinforce some of the management practices that I had been using, but to also greatly build upon them.   I feel the title is a misinterpretation for the material that is provided by the course.  I believe that all levels of management and all levels of experience can benefit from this course.  I feel this course provides a good foundation for all types of communications that are received and need to be relayed.  Allows one self to take a moment to reflect what is truly being said.

  I'm sure it helps that the facilitator was an "I"-leader such as myself.  So I found most, if not all, of the content entertaining when paired with real life examples.  Marilyn took the time to ensure all class participants fully understood the material and was able to present and reiterate information as needed so that all could understand from all perspectives.  She brought clarity to many grey areas that could be interpreted differently and she allowed me to see the simplicity of communicating difficult tasks or discussions by simplifying the thought process.  She has brought some structured organization to my organized chaos.  I enjoyed her class very much and can only have the opportunity to attend another course in the near future.

  I enjoyed every minute of the course, from the time I stepped in to the time I stepped out.  Group activities, live role plays, one on one discussions and real life examples really allowed me to keep engaged at all times.  I appreciated the fluidity of the course outline and the recap at the end to tie in all aspects that was learned from each day.  I can honestly say I took more away from this course than I had expected or ever appreciated from previous training sessions.

  This is my second course with Bruce.  Bruce brings a personal touch to his courses reflected from his time in the corporate world.  To capture everyone's attention over multiple days is a challenging task and Bruce does it incredibly well.

  The facilitator's stories were often very long and not always necessary to make the point. Other participants in the room seemed to like the stories, but I would have prefered more content. We could have covered way more ground if the stories were kept to a minimum. We also had a lot of participants in the room (with D and i personalities) that would cut the facilitator off, ask unrelated questions, or make comments that would bring the conversation off track. I felt like the facilitator could have done better at moderating that - encouraging those people to talk to her at the break or at the end of the day, but instead she entertained each question or comment and that would often put us over time. There were many times where I "checked out" of the conversation because it was just a one-on-one conversation with one individual in the room.

  This course exceeded my expectations. I thought if I got at least 1 or 2 things I could apply to my job I would be happy but every module gave me useful information. Marilyn did a fantastic job. I have a short attention span in a class-room environment but she kept things very engaging and kept things moving along at a quick pace while allowing the class to talk. Marilyn allowed people to speak but didn't allow them to high-jack the course and ramble on about their own issues. She did a fantastic job.

  I did not feel that a Manager or new Supervisor would feel any better equipped to do their job(s) once returning to their work environment.   The skills necessary to do this job (which I am presently doing) involves conflict management, managerial liabilities and group facilitation.  Very little of the course would apply (other than identifying personality traits) and for the most part, I struggle to see the benefit.  Luc knew his material and handled the class effectively.
