How do you define leadership?

Leadership is the power that lies in each one of us to make a difference. It is the conviction to do "the right thing" and the courage to see it through when faced with opposition.

What have you experienced (or observed) about organizations who actively develop and support women for leadership positions compared with those who do not?

Those organizations that do - and they are in the minority - are better for it by embracing diversity and taking advantage of the entire organizations' talent pool. This contributes to a more successful organization that is responsive to today's business environment.

What was your biggest challenge, as a female,

b. and later taking on a leadership position?

The vast majority of my career is as an entrepreneur. This presented a different combination of challenges such as securing financial resources and not being evaluated on a level playing field.

What has been your experience with millennial women (in their 20's) in the workplace?

Generally, this group are keen, inquisitive and quick learners. They are also less formal in their relationships and less patient with traditional business environments.

Have a plan and be strategic about your career path.

How can organizations be more successful in engaging millennial women?

By being more connected through social media, being less structured and more flexible with work policies, for example.

How have you leveraged mentors, coaches or your professional network for your career development?

Throughout my career, I have relied upon mentors for their guidance and support. My consulting practise has thrived on the theme of, "don't ask for referrals; be referable". Hence, I have never made a cold call.

Which female leader inspires you today?

A millennial woman I am impressed with is Taylor Swift. (http://taylorswift.com/) She is demonstrating a well thought out plan for her success and is strategic in her thinking.
