Traditional definitions of employee recognition are evolving to keep pace with both neuroscience insights and the evolving workplace. We’re shifting to focus on the big picture of the employee experience, which is fueled by a need to find meaning and purpose in our working lives. We therefore need to continue to move beyond tangible rewards and enhance opportunities to create deeper connections between employees through positive feedback, gratitude and peer relationships.
Emerging research in neuroscience reinforces this need to direct attention to the ‘social’ aspects of our workplace and what that means to shaping an environment that allows employees to make a meaningful contribution.
