It's a fairly safe bet that any time we lead a seminar on employment law, one topic that gets a great deal of attention is termination from employment. Some of the more frequently asked questions include: what will it cost our company; what should be said in the termination letter; and what is 'cause'?
Given some recent court decisions, we thought that it would be appropriate to outline a few Q&A's to keep in mind when terminating employment without cause. As clients who have copies of our termination checklist will attest, the following Q&A's are only a small sampling of the questions that can arise in this area. That said, the purpose of this outline is to highlight a few time-honoured principles and some points from recent court decisions. As always, if you have any questions, please let us know.
