Ode to Those Left Behind

They've seen their co-workers laid off, downsized and right sized. They've watched jobs get eliminated, functions get outsourced and business processes get off-shored. And they've survived. All of these circumstances leave behind employees some grateful, some bitter, nearly all with a sense of distrust.

Employers are watched, judged

Organizations that work their way through such trying changes may find that dealing with the employees left behind presents challenges every bit as difficult as dealing with those who must leave. Missteps in the workforce-reduction process can create larger cultural problems for the remaining workforce.
